Beatriz Crnugely: GY209 Commerce (Global Experience )
I chose Commerce because of its broad curriculum and the opportunity to explore different subjects, perspectives and career opportunities. I was particularly attracted to the opportunity to study abroad, which I believe will contribute to both my personal and professional development.
Having my own business has also motivated me to pursue Commerce. I believe the knowledge and skills I gain will help me develop my business and become a more confident and capable entrepreneur.
One of the best things about studying at University of Galway is being surrounded by people from different cultures and backgrounds. I also really value the wide range of support and resources available to students.
Rachel Carty: GY505 MPharm (Pharmacy )
I love that pharmacy combines my passions for science and patient care. It is a scientific and clinical degree, but it also requires a deep personal and human connection. I knew that studying Pharmacy at University of Galway would allow me to develop clinical knowledge alongside important skills such as empathy, communication and respect.
Being part of the inaugural cohort of students in the School of Pharmacy has been a wonderful experience. It makes a real difference having lecturers with industry experience who are also approachable, kind and genuinely excited to teach us.
Outside academia, I joined the University of Galway Boat Club as a novice rower. I had no previous experience, but the challenging training has been incredibly rewarding. Through rowing, I have met students from courses I would never otherwise have encountered and have made lifelong friends. I’m excited about the many opportunities still to come.
Finn Brady: GY111 BA (English and Creative Writing )
I moved from a small town in Cork to Galway not knowing quite what to expect. I chose English and Creative Writing because I wanted to explore my passion for writing, create new stories and develop projects of my own. I also wanted to maintain my Irish, which I have been able to do through my additional subject, Léann na Cumarsáide.
University of Galway has provided exactly what I was looking for. I’ve learned from incredible lecturers with real industry experience and had the opportunity to use high-quality recording equipment and work in a green-screen studio.
Most importantly, I have found something I genuinely enjoy. University has changed academia from something I once feared into something I enjoy and excel at. As I enter my final year, I’m excited to take on new roles as Editor-in-Chief of SIN and Reachtaire of Cumann Drámaíochta. Galway really is the City of Tribes, and I’m delighted to have found mine.
