A young apprentice electrician was put off the road for a year and fined when convicted of driving with cocaine in his system.
Jack Daly, Urracly, Cloghanshill, Tuam was stopped at a Garda checkpoint in the Birmingham Road area of Tuam on October 26 last.
He was tested on the spot, and the test proved positive for cocaine in his system. He was arrested and taken to Tuam Garda Station, where he provided a blood sample, which confirmed the roadside test and was positive for cocaine. Judge James Faughnan was told Daly had no previous convictions.
Eric Gleeson solicitor (defending ) said that his client had since moved to the UK and was an apprentice electrician there.
Judge Faughnan imposed a one-year driving disqualification and a fine of €200.
