A Galway-based HR consultancy is celebrating seven years in business by giving something back to the local community, with a €3,500 fund being made available to support youth sports teams, schools and grassroots activities across the county.

GHR Consulting, which was founded in Galway by Managing Director Ruairi Guckian, is marking its seventh birthday this October with seven sponsorship packages worth €500 each. The initiative is aimed at local teams, clubs and schools supporting young people aged 18 and under.

For GHR, the birthday milestone represents more than seven years of providing HR, training and recruitment support to businesses across the West of Ireland. It is also an opportunity to recognise the communities that have supported the company since it was established.

The seven €500 sponsorship packages can be used by successful applicants towards a wide range of team-related costs, including new sports equipment, playing kits, training gear, tournament entry fees and other activities that help young people participate and develop through sport.

Teams and clubs from across Galway are now being encouraged to enter, with the application process designed to be straightforward and taking approximately two minutes to complete. Eligible applicants include local U18 and younger sports teams, primary and secondary school teams, community clubs and other grassroots organisations involved in youth development.

Speaking about the initiative, GHR Consulting Managing Director Ruairi Guckian said the company wanted to celebrate its seventh birthday in a way that would have a meaningful impact locally.

“GHR Consulting has long been involved in local fundraising. Reaching our 7th milestone is something we’re incredibly proud of, and we felt there was no better way to celebrate our birthday than by giving back to the Galway communities that have supported us,” he said.

He added that while €500 may seem like a modest amount, it can make a significant difference to a local team.

Whether it helps a group purchase a set of new jerseys, replace essential training equipment or cover the cost of entering a tournament, the funding is intended to remove some of the financial barriers that can prevent young people from getting involved in sport.

“We hope this sponsorship fund can help a small local team grow and engage more young people,” Mr Guckian said.

Applications are now open, with teams asked to submit a short entry explaining how the €500 sponsorship would benefit their group. Entries must be submitted through the dedicated birthday page on the GHR Consulting website by Friday, October 9, 2026.

The seven successful applicants will be selected at random, with the winners due to be announced on October 16th, GHR Consulting’s official seventh birthday.
