Marie Keating Foundation to hold free cancer prevention workshop in Galway next month

The Marie Keating Foundation has teamed up with the Dalata Hotel Group to promote cancer prevention and healthy living, with workshops taking place around the country, including in the Clayton Hotel, Galway, on September 16.

The Wellness Workshop Roadshow 2026 workshops bring expert-led, practical health and wellbeing advice directly into communities around Ireland.

The workshops are designed to empower individuals with the tools to future-proof their health with advice on cancer prevention, nutrition, exercise, and overall wellbeing. Each workshop will feature a panel of experts sharing evidence-based advice in an accessible and supportive setting.

The second of these free cancer prevention and wellness workshops, taking place in Galway from 12 noon to 2pm on September 16, will feature an expert line-up including Marie Keating Foundation assistant director of nursing Bernie Carter; Sinead Duignan, senior dietitian, Portiuncula University Hospital; Lisa O’Looney, senior physiotherapist, Portiuncula University Hospital; and Hugh O’Neill, manager, Club Vitae Galway.

In addition, the Marie Keating Foundation Mobile Information Unit will be in attendance from 11am to 3pm, manned by a community nurse providing a welcoming, confidential space where attendees can speak privately with a trained nurse, ask questions or seek trusted advice before or after the event. There will also be a host of wellness providers in attendance ready to offer advice or share information about their services.

The launch of this series follows the recent extension of Dalata Hotel Group’s major charity partnership with the Marie Keating Foundation for a further three years, through to 2028. The initial three–year partnership, from 2022 to 2025, raised over €760,000, funding vital cancer education initiatives, including the funding of the foundation’s new Mobile Information Units.

The renewed partnership will build on this strong foundation, with Dalata employees continuing to lead fundraising efforts in support of the Marie Keating Foundation’s nationwide cancer awareness, education, and support services, which are provided free of charge.

Thanks to the success of the previous three-year partnership with Dalata Hotel Group, the Marie Keating Foundation was able to invest in new Mobile Information Units.

“We are so grateful for our lifesaving partnership with the Dalata Hotel Group and their constant commitment to supporting the wellbeing of their employees and local communities nationwide," said Helen Forristal, the Marie Keating Foundation's director of nursing services. "Through their remarkable commitment, kindness, and generosity, we have been able to bring lifesaving cancer information to thousands of people all around Ireland since our partnership started. This year we are proud to collaborate on these free workshops to support the health and well-being of individuals, groups, and communities nationwide.”

Shane Mulchrone, Dalata Group social impact manager, added: “Dalata Hotel Group promotes a culture of investing in its people and the communities it serves. We are deeply committed to this culture of care within our teams and our local communities. We are incredibly proud to host this workshop in Clayton Hotel Galway."
