Galway Hospice is calling on people across Galway to put the kettle on this September and host their own Coffee Morning in support of local hospice care.
Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Hospice takes place on Thursday, 24th September 24, but supporters can choose any date that suits them and bring together family, friends, colleagues or neighbours over a cup of coffee while raising funds for Galway Hospice.
Helping launch this year’s campaign as local Coffee Morning ambassadors are Annemarie Burke and her mother Anne Burke, from Labane, Ardrahan, who have been hosting their own Coffee Morning in support of Galway Hospice for more than three decades.
Anne hosted her first Coffee Morning after experiencing the support of Galway Hospice’s Home Care Team when her father was living with lung cancer. After he passed away in January 1993, she saw an advertisement for a Hospice Coffee Morning and decided to invite a few neighbours over. That first gathering raised almost €1,000, and a family tradition was born.
For Anne, the reason for continuing remains as important today as it was when they started: “It’s our way of giving back to Galway Hospice for all of the marvellous work they do and the help they give when we really need it. That’s what it means.”
Over the years, their Coffee Morning has grown into a community occasion, with neighbours helping out, Annemarie taking care of the baking and generations of local families coming along. Last year was their biggest Coffee Morning yet, raising more than €3,000 for Galway Hospice.
Encouraging others across Galway to get involved this September, Anne said: “I guarantee you — hold one. If it’s only for ten people, hold one. I guarantee you’ll hold it next year and every other year. It doesn’t matter how much you raise. Anything is a help.”
Every euro raised locally through the campaign stays locally, helping Galway Hospice continue providing specialist palliative care and support to patients and families across Galway.
In 2025 alone, Galway Hospice cared for more than 1,600 patients and their families through its Inpatient Unit, Community Palliative Care Team and Day Care services.

Since the campaign began in 1992, Coffee Mornings across Galway have raised more than €2.7million, thanks to the generosity of hosts and communities across the county.
Coffee Mornings can be held at home, at work, in schools, community centres, clubs or anywhere people can come together for a cuppa.
