If you didn’t achieve the points required for your chosen CAO course, or if you are still considering your options, Galway Community College (GCC ) of Further Education offers excellent opportunities to help you move forward with confidence.
GCC Further Education offers a diverse range of full-time courses (four days per week ) designed to equip students with the skills, knowledge and practical experience needed for today’s workplace. Its programmes are aligned with industry needs and provide strong progression routes to both higher education and employment.
For those wishing to progress to higher education, GCC courses act as valuable stepping stones. There are no CAO points required for entry, and students can convert their QQI results into CAO points (390 ), making them eligible for over 1,200 CAO courses nationwide. Many of GCC's Level 6 programmes also offer progression opportunities directly into second-year courses at ATU. Strong links with universities are maintained through regular information sessions and guidance support.
A key feature of GCC is the emphasis on practical learning. Most courses include a work placement one day per week across the academic year, allowing students to gain real-world experience and enhance their employability. Students are supported throughout their studies with access to guidance counselling, disability and learning supports, and financial assistance such as SUSI grants and the Back to Education Allowance. Registration fees remain affordable at €175.
Students at GCC benefit from a friendly, inclusive environment with small class sizes and personalised support. There is flexibility to change courses up to the end of October, ensuring students find the right fit. GCC also offer fully funded Erasmus placements, providing valuable international work experience opportunities.

New for 2026: Wood Craft and Design (Level 5 ) – a practical, creative course designed for students interested in working with wood, developing design skills, and exploring careers in craftsmanship and construction.
