GTI provides a range of pre-university or pathway courses geared towards providing learners with a solid foundation prior to committing to a three- or four-year degree course.
Applicants who successfully complete their course at GTI and achieve the necessary entry requirements can apply for over 250 reserved QQI places at the University of Galway - (www.cao.ie/universityofgalway.ie ). Places are offered on a competitive basis and are open to holders of relevant QQI awards.
A new and exciting development this year is the commencement of the Tertiary Degree Programme in Software and Technology ATU. In partnership with GTI and GRETB, a new Tertiary Education degree at Galway Technical Institute was recently launched - the BSc (Hons ) in Software and Technology. The BSc (Hons ) in Software and Technology is a tertiary education programme whereby the learner spends one year in the ETB setting and completes years two, three and four at ATU.
Following completion of year one of the programme at GTI, learners then progress to year two of the honours degree programme at ATU’s Galway City Dublin Road campus. This innovative partnership between ATU, GRETB and GTI is the latest addition to the tertiary education programme offering at ATU. The programme's focus on technology and software development signifies a new direction for tertiary education programme development at the university. This programme prepares learners for both employment and entrepreneurial ventures in the growing field of integrated software-hardware systems.
For those interested in gaining a qualification and commencing work, GTI offers a variety of courses such as Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing, Animal Care, and Office Administration. For many students, the leap from second level into the vastness of third level can be daunting even when a young person is sure of what it is they wish to study. More and more students are now taking an opportunity to explore all the options that are now available to them in the further education and training sector. Courses which provide a blend of work placements, including Erasmus placements, practical and applied learning opportunities are capturing the attention of students and employers. Furthermore, Further Education courses qualify for SUSI grants and fees are a fraction of that in the Third Level sector. PLC courses are also the ideal pathway to a future career in many sectors such as the Accounting Technician & Hairdressing Apprenticeships, currently running in GTI.
