Galway poets to launch debut collections

THE DEBUT collections of poetry from Mary Hanlon and Deirdre Kearney will be launched in Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop on Thursday August 6 at 6.30pm.

The launch is organised by Over The Edge and will see the launch of Dear Beloved by Mary Hanlon and Spiddal Pier by Deirdre Kearney, both published by Belfast’s Lapwing Press.

Hanlon was a participant in Kevin Higgins’ advanced poetry workshop at the Galway Arts Centre. Her poems have appeared in West 47 online, The Cúirt Annual, and Revival.

Deirdre Kearney was also a participant in the advanced poetry workshop at Galway Arts Centre. Her poems have been published in West 47, Cúirt New Writing 2007, The Ulster Herald, Crannóg, and Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann magazine.

The evening will also see the Galway launch of Chora: New & Selected Poems (Templar Poetry ) by Nigel McLoughlin, a prize-winning poet, editor, and teacher. He is reader in creative writing at the University of Gloucestershire.
