Infrastructure, housing and investment were just some of the issues discussed by the Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council Andrew Reddington and An Tánaiste Simon Harris, in a high level meeting in Government Buildings recently.
The Tánaiste, along with senior Ministers, met with 13 Fine Gael Councillors who have recently been elected as the first citizen of their county. Councillor Reddington, who was elected as Cathaoirleach in June, outlined his main priorities for his term.
“Improving cooperation with Uisce Éireann is a key priority for me as Cathaoirleach, which will help enable much-needed infrastructure projects around county Galway.
“I’ll continue to drive for the Galway Ring Road project and ensure every effort is made to deliver this vital piece of infrastructure.
“We must work closely with the IDA and Enterprise Ireland to get more investment and push the need to central Government that more money is needed for Galway County Council to deliver on the services people depend on.”
Tánaiste Simon Harris said: “I want to thank Andrew for meeting me in Government Buildings and for the energy he is bringing to his new role. Fine Gael is at its best when we work as one team, locally and nationally, and Andrew will be a strong voice for Galway at that table along with Fine Gael Councillors in the area.
“Where we can help deliver for the people of Galway, whether that is infrastructure, housing or investment in the county, my door is open and I will be in regular contact with Andrew to see what more we can do for Galway. National ambition and local delivery have to go hand in hand and that is exactly what today’s meeting was about.”
