Cheevers welcomes Merlin Woods clean up

Fianna Fáil Councillor Alan Cheevers has welcomed the appointment of a contractor to clear fallen trees and restore pathways in Merlin Woods following the extensive damage caused by Storm Éowyn.

“This is a project I have been pursuing for some time, and I am delighted to see it finally progressing,” said Cllr Cheevers.

The works contract has been awarded to Euroforest Ireland, with work due to commence in September and expected to take approximately three months to complete.

Due to the nature of the works, some areas of Merlin Woods will have limited access while the project is underway. A traffic management plan will also be in place for Merlin Lane.

Euroforest Ireland has confirmed that health and safety will be its top priority throughout the project. The company has been engaging with key stakeholders and will shortly hold a meeting with residents in the affected area to discuss the planned works.

Cllr Cheevers said that the clearing of fallen trees and reopening of pathways will make Merlin Woods much more accessible for residents and the many people across the community who use the woods on a regular basis.

“I appreciate everyone’s patience while these essential works are carried out, and I look forward to seeing the woods fully reopened and restored for public enjoyment,” he concluded.
