This Saturday, July 18, more than 150 swimmers will take on the 13km crossing of Galway Bay in the 21st Annual Frances Thornton Memorial Galway Bay Swim, raising vital funds for Cancer Care West.

The event, which starts at Aughinish, Co. Clare and finishes at Blackrock Diving Tower in Salthill, is one of Ireland’s longest and most iconic open-water swims.

It is also part of the Irish Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming and the only bay crossing on the Wild Atlantic Way.

Cancer Care West extends its sincere thanks to every swimmer, volunteer, organiser and member of the maritime community whose dedication and support make this unique event possible each year.

Their commitment ensures the swim is both safe and successful. With participants on course to raise more than €150,000, the public is encouraged to come to Blackrock from 12.00pm onwards to welcome the swimmers home and cheer them across the finish line.

Every donation and every show of support helps Cancer Care West continue providing vital services to people and families affected by cancer throughout the West and North West of Ireland.
