As many as 50,000 Galway sports fans will head east this weekend, as Galway senior hurlers chase glory in a mouthwatering senior hurling final against Limerick at Croke Park.

Officially, 16,000 tickets made their way to Galway from the GAA last week, but a multiple of this figure is expected to end up in Galway hands as the Tribesmen seek their first title since 2017.

The storming performance by Micheal Donoghue’s young and experienced charges in the semi-final win over Cork guaranteed that access to Sunday’s game is the hottest ticket in town. While the match is a complete sellout, fans of the maroon and white will not be deterred from travelling east to experience the festival atmosphere

With Mayo in next week’s senior football final, there has been much ticket trading across the county boundaries.

Galway County Council has confirmed that regardless of the result, a homecoming for the team will be held at the Fairgreen in Ballinasloe on Monday afternoon next, and the team are afterwards expected to make their way to Pearse Stadium.

In celebration of the occasion, there is a 44-page pullout supplement previewing the match contained within this issue of the Galway Advertiser.
