The Galway senior ladies’ footballers aim to cement home advantage in the All-Ireland quarter-final when they face Tyrone in Tuam this Saturday.

Galway delivered a massive second-half performance to beat Meath by 15-points in the first fixture of the Tribeswomen’s All-Ireland campaign. That victory means if Galway beat Tyrone this weekend, they will top their group and secure a home All-Ireland quarter-final.

Galway’s attacking exploits earned them plaudits during their league campaign earlier this year. Their flair in attack was on show once more last Sunday afternoon Stamullen. The trio of Olivia Divilly, Leanne Coen, and Róisín Leonard starred for the Tribeswomen, shooting 1-17 between them.

Aided by a strong wind in the first-half, Meath flew out the traps. The Royals led throughout the half, until Coen and Divilly points ensured the sides went into the break on level terms. Daniel Moynihan’s charges flexed their muscles after the interval, showing just why they are a team to be feared this All-Ireland championship.

Their opponents this weekend impressed in their Ulster championship run to the final where they eventually lost to Armagh by just one-point. They were less impressive during their Division 2 league campaign, finishing fourth with a record of four wins, one draw, two losses.

The importance of getting their final eight status wrapped up this weekend cannot be understated. The last thing the Tribeswomen will want is to watch Tyrone and Meath slash it out next weekend in uncertainty. Home advantage would be massive too.

It all leads to an intriguing battle at Tuam Stadium this Sunday. Throw-in is 2pm.
