• Corinthians RFC is holding a rugby information evening tonight (Thursday ) at 8.30pm in Busker Brownes. The club will launch its fixture list for the season season and its future plans for the development of rugby within the club.
• The Connacht Senior League was completed at the weekend with Corinthians enjoying a deserved 15 - 8 win over city rivals Galwegians. However the seven-point loss was enough for Galwegians to claim the trophy, giving them a valuable losers’ bonus point. In the end Galwegians finished top of the league with 10 points following their 25 - 13 win over Buccaneers and the walkover with Connemara. Corinthians finished with nine points following the weekend’s win over Galwegians and a 30 - 3 win over Connemara. Their ony loss was to Buccaneers by 23 - 5. Connemara struggled in the league, losing two games and giving a walkover to Galwegians.
• The Connacht Junior League Division 1A kicks off this weekend with six games down for decision. Last year’s winners Monivea, who should have been playing AIL rugby but for the offence of playing an unregistered player under a false name, will open their new season against OLBC in Monivea. As a result of their return to the junior ranks, Sligo, initially relegated, are now back in the division, along with Creggs and Loughrea who were promoted, to make it a 13-team league.
Fixtures: Sunday Sept 21, Monivea v OLBC, Galwegians v Ballina, Castlebar v Tuam, Creggs v Corrib, Loughrea v Westport, Buccaneers v Sligo. Corinthians have a bye this weekend.
