A planning application has been submitted to Galway County Council for a new residential development at Gallows Hill Road, Loughrea, comprising 36 family homes on lands located within walking distance of the town centre.
The proposed development, known as Gairdíní Chnoc Carmel (Mount Carmel Gardens ), includes a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes together with landscaped open spaces, pedestrian and cycle connections, biodiversity enhancements and associated infrastructure.
Located on the western approach to Loughrea, the development aims to contribute to the town’s continued growth while helping address demand for new housing within one of Galway’s key towns.
Commenting on the proposal, Paraic Whyte, Managing Director of Mountclare, said Loughrea continues to grow as an attractive place to live, work and raise a family.
“Developments such as this are important in providing much-needed housing choice for local families, first-time buyers and those wishing to remain in the area close to schools, employment and community facilities.
“The proposed scheme has been carefully designed to create a high-quality residential environment with generous landscaping, open spaces and strong connections to the wider town.
“We believe it represents a positive addition to Loughrea and supports the long-term sustainable growth objectives for the town,” he added.
The proposed development includes 36 homes comprising six two-bedroom units, twenty-six three-bedroom units and four four-bedroom homes. The plans also provide for public open space, future pedestrian connectivity to adjoining lands and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Subject to securing planning permission, it is anticipated that construction could commence in early 2027, delivering new housing supply and supporting employment during the construction phase.
A decision on the planning application will be made by Galway County Council following completion of the statutory planning process.
