Achill Island Tours offers visitors the chance to experience the rich heritage and charm of Achill Island in one unforgettable trip.

Beginning at 8:00am from Galway Coach Station, the guided tour takes passengers through some of the West of Ireland’s most scenic landscapes before arriving on Achill Island, famous for its cliffs, beaches and cultural history.

Travelling through County Mayo, guests will first stop in Westport for refreshments at Tina’s Bistro before continuing through the town of Newport and the seaside village of Mulranny.

The journey to Achill Island is marked by crossing the Michael Davitt Bridge. The bridge, first opened in 1887, provides the gateway to one of Ireland’s most spectacular island destinations.

Once on Achill Island, visitors can explore the scenery and visit some breathtaking attractions. Film fans are in for a special treat, as the tour also includes stops connected to the Oscar-nominated film The Banshees of Inisherin. Guests will hear behind-the-scenes stories as they visit locations used during filming.

Among the historical highlights is Grace O’Malley Castle, a 15th-century tower house linked to the legendary pirate queen.

Lunch is served at Keel’s popular Beehive Restaurant and Café. Just steps away lies the stunning Keel Beach, a 3.5-kilometre stretch of sand. Visitors will also step back in time at the Deserted Famine Village, where the ruins of a once-thriving community stand as a poignant reminder of the devastation caused by the Great Famine.

On the return journey, there is free time in Westport, widely regarded as one of Ireland’s prettiest towns. Nestled on Clew Bay beneath the slopes of Croagh Patrick, it offers the perfect setting for a stroll or some shopping before the coach returns to Galway at 6:30pm.

Blending scenery, history and culture, the Achill Island Day Tour promises a memorable West of Ireland adventure.
