Family-friendly Algarve

Fahy Travel senior sales consultants Lynne Casey and Michelle Lyons have just returned from a trip to the Algarve, one of the most popular destinations for family holidays from the west of Ireland.

They viewed a range of family-friendly properties across the many resorts, boasting the best beaches in the Mediterranean. Their favourite, which has been at the top of the list in recent years, is the Alfagar Aparthotel & Resorts, ideally located just outside Albufeira.

This impressive complex offers a variety of accommodation options, ranging from three-star to four-star apartments depending on your preference. Guests staying in any of the Alfagar properties can enjoy full access to facilities across the entire resort, including privileged access to the beautiful Santa Eulália Beach.

Particularly good for families with small children, the apartments are spacious, tastefully furnished, and feature large private balconies — perfect for relaxing family evenings. On-site facilities are excellent, with both indoor and outdoor swimming pools (including a heated option ), as well as two splash parks designed especially for younger guests. Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of tennis courts, a basketball court, and a football pitch, while a minimarket caters to those opting for self-catering.

For added convenience, a half board option is available, along with a “dine-around” experience across four on-site restaurants.

Families are particularly well catered for, with two kids’ clubs located within the complex — one in Alto da Colina and one in Alfagar village. These offer a full daily programme of activities (morning and afternoon, with a small fee payable locally ). Evening entertainment includes mini discos, quizzes, and live music in two of the resort’s bars. With great-value flights now available from both Shannon and Knock, there has never been a better time to plan your Algarve getaway.
