Galway businesswoman Marie Donnellan officially launched her children’s book ‘Always’ on Friday evening at the renowned Druid, Mick Lally Theatre, in what was described as a deeply moving and memorable occasion.

The intimate launch event brought together family, friends, leaders from across the Galway business community, and representatives from HopeSpace Children’s Grief Service.

The evening featured a special guest appearance by RTÉ broadcaster Miriam O’Callaghan, who spoke at the event before delivering a powerful and emotional reading of Always, bringing the story to life for those in attendance.

Written and illustrated by Ms Donnellan, CEO of Platform 94, Always was created in memory of her late daughter Catherine. The story follows a young bear through key life milestones, accompanied by a blue butterfly symbolising the enduring presence of a loved one no longer physically present. Designed as an uplifting and empowering resource, the book aims to support children and families navigating grief and loss.

The project has been developed as a charity initiative, with all proceeds being donated to HopeSpace Children’s Grief Service, an organisation that provides vital supports to children and families experiencing bereavement.

Speaking following the launch, Ms Donnellan described the evening as “a truly special and unforgettable experience,” and reflected on the overwhelming support she has received since first announcing the project.

She noted the incredible encouragement from family, friends, the wider community, and those who have already supported the book, describing the atmosphere on the night as something she will “carry with her forever.”

Myles McHugh, Chair of HopeSpace, also addressed attendees on the night, highlighting the vital work of the organisation in supporting children and families experiencing grief. He expressed sincere gratitude to Marie Donnellan for her “enormous generosity” in creating Always as a fundraising initiative in support of HopeSpace.
