Newly published Galway author Marie Donnellan has this week released her children’s book, Always, written in memory of her late daughter Catherine.

Always follows a young bear through a number of life milestones into adulthood, with a blue butterfly guiding and quietly championing them along the way. The butterfly symbolises the presence of someone no longer with us, bringing an uplifting sense of strength and empowerment, almost like an unseen superhero that is always beside them.

"I wrote and designed the illustrations for the book with the help of my two young children Rose and JJ, to help keep their sister’s memory present in their lives and to carry her strength with them as they grow," Ms Donnellan said.

"Always has been produced solely as a charity project, with all proceeds being donated to HopeSpace Children's Grief Service, supporting children and families navigating loss. While inspired by sibling loss, the story is intended to resonate widely, offering a simple, empowering way for families to navigate the loss of someone in their life.

"Thank you to everyone who has helped to bring this story to life," she added. "To my family, friends and colleagues for their unwavering support; to Breda and Declan from HopeSpace for their excitement and endorsement; to Caroline and the team at iSupply in Galway for your guidance and kindness throughout the emotional printing process; to Adrian Megahey for the beautiful announcement photo; and to my late mentor John, who believed in helping others above all else - thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

"And to Catherine, I hope that I have made you proud today. Thank you for showing me the way, always."
