A public meeting held by local residents of the Athenry area that is intended to “provide information and guidance” on a recently submitted planning application for the proposed Cashla Peaker Plant is set to take place on Monday, March 30, at 8pm.

The event is being organised by the Athenry Peaker Plant Concern Group, which is encouraging residents and stakeholders to engage with the planning process. The application has been formally lodged with An Coimisiún Pleanála under reference number 324113.

According to the group, the application represents a significant stage in the decision-making process, with a defined period for public participation. Submissions and observations must be made to the planning authority by 5.30pm on Thursday, April 23.

The public meeting will take place at the Raheen Woods Hotel on Monday at 8pm. It is intended to outline the details of the proposed development and explain its potential implications for Athenry and the surrounding areas.

Organisers state that the meeting will also “highlight specific areas of concern associated with the project” and “provide practical guidance on how individuals can make submissions or observations to the planning authority”. In addition, the group plans to outline potential next steps for community engagement.

Following the meeting, the Concern Group has indicated it will host one-to-one consultation clinics to assist individuals in preparing their submissions.

The group has described the current stage of the process as an important opportunity for public input, noting that opportunities to engage may become more limited as the application progresses through the planning system. Attendance at the meeting is open to all members of the public, including residents, landowners and other interested parties.
