St Stephen’s morning attack on city filling station

A JUDGE at Galway District Court has refused to hear a case against a man accused of being involved with others in a late night attack on a city filling station.

The attack took place on St Stephen’s Day last at 1.54am at Monaghan’s filling station on the Tuam Road.

The Court heard that it is alleged three males approached the night pay hatch and began spitting at it and abusing a staff member. Gardaí were summoned to a robbery in progress.

The men began throwing items on the forecourt at the windows and fuel was poured on the forecourt. They continued hitting and kicking at the windows and hatch for some time.

Judge Valerie Corcoran refused jurisdiction because of the seriousness of the charges. The case will now go forward to be heard at Galway Circuit Criminal Court.
