‘If you’re not in, you can’t win’ – last year’s winner backs Hospice Car Raffle

When Peter Flanagan received the phone call to say he had won the Galway Hospice Car Raffle last year, he thought someone was pulling his leg.

“I thought it was a joke,” he laughs. “But they reassured me it was real — and I was absolutely delighted.”

Now Peter is encouraging others across Galway to take part in this year’s raffle, reminding supporters that every ticket helps fund specialist palliative care for patients and families across the county.

“Galway Hospice has a fantastic reputation,” he says. “It’s not just a place of endings — it’s about quality of life. I have huge admiration for what they do. If I ever needed that level of care, I’d want it there for me or my family.”

A former auctioneer and long-time Galway community volunteer, Peter has been supporting Galway Hospice for years and says he will be entering the raffle again this year.

His advice is simple: “Don’t look at the paper and say, ‘they’re lucky.’ The reason you didn’t win is because you weren’t in. If I can win it — you can win it.”

First prize is a brand-new 2026 Kia Picanto, supplied by Kia Renmore. Second prize is a family holiday to France sponsored by Keller Travel, and third prize is €500.

Funds raised from the raffle will support Galway Hospice services and help progress plans for a new hospice facility for Galway.

Tickets cost just €10 each, with three tickets for €20 or 15 tickets for €100. Anyone who buys or sells 15 tickets will also be entered into a special draw to win €250.

Tickets are available online at raffle.galwayhospice.ie, from Galway Hospice in Renmore, or by calling 091-770868. Entries close on 28th April.
