Sinn Féin TD for Galway East, Louis O’Hara has said that TII must ensure the repair of the Heathlawn section of the N65 without any further delay. This follows a meeting organised by O’Hara, attended by representatives of TII, Galway County Council, and local Oireachtas members.
Dep O’Hara said the delays have been unacceptable, and TII will be held to the timeline they have provided for the repairs.
Speaking following the meeting, he said it is unacceptable that 18 months after the incident at Heathlawn, the temporary traffic lights remain in place and I expressed the frustration of road users directly to TII.
“I was informed that design consultants have now been appointed and their work is underway, with a detailed design for the repair works expected to be finalised in May. The works will then proceed to tender with an expectation that works will be underway by mid to late summer.
“TII gave an assurance that all necessary funding would be made available, that there is no reason why this timeline should not be met and that the works will comprehensively address all damage to the road structure.
“It was outlined that consultants were brought on board due to the complexity of the damage caused and that a temporary solution is not possible due to the nature of the damage to the road.
“This situation has been handled poorly and points to real issues in how these problems are dealt with by our roads authorities. We now have a clear timeline for the works and I will continue to hold TII to account for the delays to these repairs and hold them to the timeline that they have now provided," he concluded.
