Barna-based artist Sacha Hutchinson is concerned about Atlantic seabirds, and the habitats of coastal birdlife are the backdrops to her current exhibition, Flight, in Darog Winebar on Dominick Street.

Flight is a celebration of these Atlantic seabirds, and a reflection on their fragile existence. On dsiplay now, Hutchinson will join Edel Lukács for Le Chéile: An Evening of Creative Conversation next Monday, March 23, from 7pm to 9pm.

Hutchinson is a practising artist with a degree in Art and Design. Working primarily in gouache and oil, her art explores nature’s vulnerability. Alongside her visual work, she writes environmental poetry and has been published in several poetry journals and art anthologies. She is also a member of the Hare’s Corner Collective.

Hutchinson’s art observes both native and visiting species, drawing attention to their declining numbers and the urgent need for conservation. Her paintings capture birds in motion, suspended in air, skimming the shoreline, or inhabiting coastal meadows – revealing both their strength and delicacy.

While visually celebratory, Flight carries a strong environmental message. The exhibition reflects on the threats facing coastal bird populations, including habitat loss, plastic pollution, overfishing and climate change. Through both paint and poetry, Hutchinson invites viewers to look closely and to consider the responsibility of protection and stewardship.

Tickets for Le Chéile are €20. This includes wine tasting and 10 per cent off artwork purchased on the night.
