Nineteen agricultural shows this summer across Galway will benefit from €140,100 funding to support agricultural shows, a Fine Gael Senator has said. Senator P.J. Murphy said funding will support the work of each of the 19 show committees as they prepare for the upcoming season.
“I’m delighted to see funding of €140,100 for agricultural shows in Galway. Across the county, we know the importance of these shows for bringing the community together.
“In particular, I’m delighted to see funding for the Ardrahan Agricultural Show, the Athenry Agricultural Show, the Gort and District Show, and the Loughrea Agricultural Show Association. The organisers work hard each year to carry out the event, and this money will be hugely beneficial.”
There is an investment of over one million euros to support 126 Agricultural Shows right across the country. Each show will receive a grant of between €4,200 and €11,400, depending on its size.
“I would encourage everyone to attend their local agricultural show and see the competitions, music, cattle and dog shows and the showcasing of all the local produce that is made here.
“I want to commend the organisers of these shows for their hard work, as we all know there is a huge amount of planning done leading up to these shows.
“I look forward to attending the Ardrahan Agricultural Show and many other agricultural shows this summer to see the hard work first-hand,” concluded Senator Murphy.
