Ábalta Special School, now under the patronage of Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB ), recently reflected on a very special occasion in which Bishop Michael Duignan visited the school to administer the Sacraments of Confirmation and Communion. The sense of pride and gratitude among students, families and staff was evident throughout the celebration.
The school community was honoured to welcome Bishop Michael and to host the ceremony in the familiar and supportive environment of the students’ own school. It proved to be a deeply meaningful day for the children and their families.
Ábalta Special School wishes to express its sincere appreciation to Bishop Michael for his personal presence and the thoughtful, inclusive way he administered the sacraments. The joy of the children was evident throughout, making the celebration a memorable highlight for all involved.
One parent shared that the day was a dream come true.
“Never did we dream such a perfect day would be possible for our child and her friends at Ábalta Special School. Our daughter made her First Holy Communion and her Confirmation with the support and kindness of the school community, along with Bishop Michael’s patience and Mary’s beautiful music, all of which contributed to a truly special experience.
“We have always known that our daughter is blessed and close to nature – this inclusive ceremony meant so much to our family.”
