A MAN who is alleged to have thrown a glass across a dance floor which hit and injured a young woman he didn’t know, is to have an assault causing harm charge he faces heard at Galway District Court in June.
Judge Valerie Corcoran said she would not have accepted jurisdiction of the case if the glass had broken and caused more serious injuries to the victim.
The Court heard how it will be alleged that Shane Mullane, 26 Garran Ard, Doughiska, was in the Front Door public house when he threw a glass across the dance floor.
It hit a woman on the forehead and caused a laceration which required a number of stitches. Neither party were known to each other at the time.
The Judge inquired if the lady in question had a scar as a result and prosecuting Garda Sgt Clare Heneghan informed her that the victim had a scar on her forehead.
Accepting to hear the case, the Judge said that had the glass broken on impact and worse injuries were sustained she would not have accepted jurisdiction and would have sent the case to a higher court to be dealt with.
Olivia Traynor solr (defending ) said that Mullane was working but had now lost his job, so she applied for legal aid on his behalf.
The case was adjourned until the June 22 sitting of the Court.
