Play unpacks privileged punks

The University of Galway’s Drama and Theatre Studies Department will present Posh, by Laura Wade, for five nights, from Friday, March 6, at 7pm.

Posh will be performed on Saturday, March 7, at 5pm, Tuesday, March 10, and Wednesday, March 11, at 7pm, and final show on Thursday, March 12, at 1pm.

The play focuses on ten elite Oxford University undergraduates – all members of the notorious ‘Riot Club’ – as they gather for a debaucherous meal at a rural pub, aiming to restore their “right to rule”.

The evening descends into violence, chaos and destruction, revealing the toxic nature of privilege, power and class.

This play is loosely based on the infamous Bullingdon Club, patronised by former Tory prime ministers of Great Britain: David Cameron and Boris Johnson. It was premiered during the 2010 general election in Britain, and was later made into the 2014 film, Riot Club.

This amateur production of Posh is presented with Concord Theatricals, on behalf of Samuel French Ltd.
