Galway senior footballers are looking to get back on track against frontrunners Donegal this Sunday afternoon.

Pádraig Joyce’s side will be up against it as they take on a Donegal side yet to drop points so far this league campaign. Galway sit in fifth place following their disappointing defeat to Roscommon last weekend.

The Rossies came from 13 points down to snatch victory from the Tribesmen at Pearse Stadium. It was a bruising defeat that eliminated the feel-good factor from their heroic comeback at Kerry the weekend prior.

Spirits were high going into last Saturday’s clash after that result down south and when Galway went into half-time with a 0-16 to 0-5 lead, it looked like a statement victory was on the cards.

John Maher was dominating proceedings in the middle of the park. Robert Finnerty and Liam Ó Conghaile had their shooting boots on. But Daire Cregg and his Roscommon teammates refused to roll over.

Donegal have been the in-form team of the National Football League so far. Gavin Mulreany saved a penalty from Oisin Conaty with two minutes to play as they secured their fourth win from four games over Armagh last weekend.

Jim McGuinness’ side have looked particularly impressive, already bagging big victories over both Kerry and Mayo this campaign.

Fr Tierney Park in Ballyshannon beckons for this encounter. Throw-in is 1.15pm.
