Galway's hurlers take on Waterford at Pearse Stadium this Sunday as they look to build on their first win of the season last time out.

After encouraging performances against Cork and Tipperary, securing a win over Offaly last weekend was of utmost importance. Micheál Donohue's side got the job done in Birr with a 2-23 to 0-18 win.

Conor Whelan and Cathal Mannion were particularly impressive for the Tribesmen. Whelan bagged 1-01 deep into injury time to put the gloss on the Galway display. Mannion accounted for 1-9 of his team's tally, with five points coming from frees.

That win leaves the Tribesmen with a cushion over relegation rivals Offaly in seventh place. Sunday offers Galway a chance to build some daylight.

Waterford sit in sixth on four points with four games played. They pushed Kilkenny all the way last weekend but lost by a point.

Kilkenny needed a 75th minute free from Cian Kenny to take the spoils. Waterford would have been bitterly disappointed having been two-points ahead in the 68th minute. But the Munster side will take encouragement from their performance and their campaign so far.

Waterford's victory over Limerick earlier in the month proved they are more than capable of causing an upset and hanging at this level. Galway will have to have their wits about them to get a result out of this contest.

But Donohue's charges have impressed this campaign and if they make it two wins in a row this weekend, there should be cause for serious optimism.

Throw-in at Pearse Stadium this Sunday is 2pm.
