Second road ban for motorist who drove while disqualified

A man who was put off the road for driving without insurance was caught driving once again by Gardaí only five months later, Judge James Faughnan observed when the second case came before him at Tuam District Court.

Syed Shahzaib (30 ) 25 Rocklands Avenue, Ballybane, Galway, was stopped by Gardaí at Church Road, Headford on November 6 last. He had been put off the road for driving without instance the previous May when he was convicted of five offences related to one incident.

Sean Acton solicitor (defending ) said the irony was that his client had insurance cover when he was stopped the second time in Headford, but it was utterly useless because he shouldn’t have been driving at all at the time.

His client was a Pakistani national and worked in a major factory in Galway.

Judge Faughnan said he was not impressed that the defendant ignored the first driving ban and was caught by Gardaí on the road again just five months after it was imposed.

He put him off the road for three years and imposed a fine of €600.
