Best of music and fun makes its way to Inishbofin

If ever a reason was needed to visit the wonderful island of Inishbofin off the Galway coast, a forthcoming series of concerts has got to be it. The Inishbofin Concerts will present a series of the very best in Irish traditional and contemporary music and comedy during July and August, and these intimate concerts will take place in what has to be one of the most gloriously located venues in Ireland — the Dolphin Hotel.

Tuesday July 28 sees the ever popular singer Eleanor Shanly and her band take to the stage. On August 4 one half of the famous comedy duo D’Unbelieveables, the mighty Jon Kenny, will bring his unique brand of comedy to the island. One of Ireland’s finest singer/songwriters, Mundy, will present what promises to be a marvellous night’s entertainment on August 11. The legendary Mary Coughlan needs no introduction. This soul diva will be accompanied by her band on August 18 for what is sure to be a rare, intimate gig in her home county of Galway.

The final concert on August 25 will feature two of Inishbofin’s most famous musical exports — Dessie O’Halloran and Geraldine King, both renowned singers and musicians who have successfully taken their unique brand of music and song around the world. They will be joined on the night by two members of the world-famous band Lúnasa, Seán Smyth on fiddle and Kevin Crawford on flute, and keyboard player extraordinare Carl Hession. The concerts commence at 9.30pm and tickets may be purchased at the door, at a cost of €15 for adults, €8 for children.
