A JUDGE warned a mother that she could lose her home, or whatever she had, if she was sued by the victims of any traffic incident she got involved in while driving without insurance.
Judge James Faughnan gave his warning at Ballinasloe District Court when the mother of two appeared before him on a charge of driving without insurance.
Garda Michelle Hallinan in evidence said that Sara Keogh’s (38 ) insurance policy had been voided as the insurance company discovered she had not declared all relevant matters when taking out the policy.
The defendant told the Judge that she had a new insurance policy now, with a different company. However, the Judge insisted he wanted to be sure she had made a truthful declaration when taking out this new policy as if she had not, then she would still not be covered.
He warned her that if she was involved in an accident while uninsured any injured parties could sue her personally and take her home or whatever she owned. “Your home could be gone. They’ll come after you,” he warned and adjourned the case until the March 28 sitting of the Court for her to provide documentary proof of being fully insured.
