The Ukrainian Ambassador to Ireland, Larysa Gerasko attended the launch of a new Ukrainian book collection at Galway City Library on Thursday last.

The collection of books was collected, and donated, by Natalya Korniyenko, a Ukrainian journalist, writer, and director of the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in Ireland.

Ms Korniyenko collected 250 books from Ukrainian publishers and authors, and donated them to 10 libraries in Galway, Mayo, Clare, and Offaly. Deputy Mayor of Galway City, Councillor Alan Cheevers, speaking at the event, said “With this collection, Ukrainians living in Galway can read works by their own authors, in their own language, and know that even though they are far from home, home is not far from them.”.

The collection is the latest addition to the wide range of resources available at Galway Public Libraries. Other offerings include free language learning courses, including English as a second language, e-books, e-magazines and e-newspapers. Membership is free.
