Glenamaddy Players to stage Chapatti

Twelve years after Christian O’Reilly’s Chapatti was premiered by the Galway International Arts Festival, the play that tackles sensitive issues will return to Galway this week with performances at the Glenamaddy Town Hall Theatre.

This Friday, February 6, Saturday, February 7, and on Friday, February 27, all at 8pm, the Glenamaddday Players bring this two-hander ‘home’ before touring it to drama festivals across the country next month.

Romance is a distant memory for two lonely animal lovers living in Dublin. When forlorn Dan (Padraic Newman ) and his dog Chapatti cross paths with the amiable Betty (Marie Coneran ) and her nineteen cats, an unexpected spark begins a warm and gentle story about people re-discovering the importance of human companionship.

Chapatti was originally produced on stage by the Northlight Theatre, in Chicago, directed by BJ Jones. The play premiered in March 2014 in a co-production with Galway Arts Festival. This latest production is directed by Coman Keaveny.

The cast is served by a very committed crew who are once again determined to present the standard of professionalism the audience has come to expect over many years of drama tradition in Glenamaddy.

Glenamaddy Players has been in existence for over 50 years. With a team of talented actors and a skilled and dedicated crew, the troop has had huge success. The group has qualified for the All-Ireland Three Act Confined Finals on many occasions: most recently in 2025 with CLASS by Iseult Golden and David Horan which finished in third place at the competition.

Please note: the play contains or references sensitive issues.
