Shortly after an apocalypse, survivors gathered at a campfire recount a Simpsons cartoon episode, to distract from their mourning.
This sets the scene for Mr Burns, a post-electric play, an award-winning and controversial production to be staged by Galway Community College students at the Mick Lally Theatre, Druid’s Lane, on Wednesday, February 11, and Thursday, February 12.
Galway Community College of Further Education’s Theatre, Film and Music students present Ann Washburn’s bold and imaginative play which explores how stories, popular culture, and memory endure and evolve in the aftermath of widespread nuclear fallout.
Could a Simpsons episode evolve to provide meaning in a world without electricity, modern technology, or a functioning government?
This production invites audiences to experience a contemporary play/musical hybrid that moves across time and style, blending drama, dark humour and music. Through ensemble-driven, bold theatrical shifts, the play examines the human need to preserve meaning when familiar structures have disappeared.
The student cast approaches the material with energy, precision, and a strong sense of collaboration, showcasing range and ambition from these emerging artists.
Performed and produced entirely by the Moneenageisha college students, the show highlights the creativity, discipline, and commitment of these amateur theatre-makers.
Performances are suitable for 13+ (post-apocalyptic theme ) and will take place on Wednesday, February 11, and Thursday, February 12, at 8pm in Druid’s Mick Lally Theatre.
