Councillor Eddie Hoare has called for full resurfacing of Circular Road and Ballagh Road.

Councillor Eddie Hoare has expressed serious concerns about the deteriorating condition of sections of Circular Road and Ballagh Road, calling for urgent and comprehensive resurfacing works.

Councillor Hoare stated that multiple stretches of both local roads have fallen into “unacceptable disrepair,” with deep potholes, broken surfaces, and uneven road edges posing ongoing safety risks for residents, commuters, cyclists, and pedestrians.

“Circular Road and Ballagh Road are critical local arteries for families, schools, and daily commuters,” said Councillor Hoare. “The current condition of these roads is simply not good enough. Patchwork repairs are no longer sufficient. We now need full resurfacing to ensure long-term safety and usability.”

Recent weather conditions have further exacerbated surface damage, accelerating wear and increasing the likelihood of accidents and vehicle damage. Councillor Hoare has confirmed that he has raised the issue with Galway City Council’s Roads Department and is requesting that both routes be prioritised in upcoming maintenance and capital works programmes.

“I am calling on the Council to immediately assess these road sections and allocate the necessary funding for full resurfacing,” Councillor Hoare added. “Residents have been more than patient, but the situation has now reached a point where comprehensive action is required.”
