Nissan has unveiled the Ariya, a solar-powered concept car.
The Ariya features 3.8m² of high-efficiency photovoltaic panels which are integrated into the bonnet, roof, and tailgate. These polymer and glass-based solar panels convert sunlight into DC power, managed through an advanced controller designed to optimise energy use and reduce reliance on external charging infrastructure.
Nissan claims that this system can provide an additional 20km of range per day.
The project is the work of Nissan engineers in Dubai and Barcelona, along with Dutch solar-mobility firm Lightyear, who supplied the solar panel technology.
A spokesperson for Nissan said the concept “is not just a technical milestone; it’s a vision of how Nissan intends to lead the next phase of electric mobility”.
