Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA ), one of Ireland’s largest disability organisations is starting the new year with a recruitment appeal in Galway to strengthen frontline services in the county as part of a nationwide campaign.

The organisation has nearly 2,500 employees across the country, the majority providing at-home assisted living support for people with disabilities, as demand for their services increases.

“Our services are rooted in a social model of support, so that people with disabilities can live their own lives, as they wish, in their own communities” according to Michael Doyle, National Director of Assisted Living Services at IWA.

“However, it is undeniable that the demands on our staff far outweigh supply. We are hoping this January people will learn more about the positive benefits of working for IWA and decide to work for an organisation that values them.”

In 2025 Irish Wheelchair Association was recognised as one of Ireland’s Best Employers, as ranked by The Sunday Independent's annual listing. Last year the organisation increased its ranking to second place. "This is a testament to our hard-working staff who are not only dedicated to IWA members but also to each other, their teams and colleagues. This is what makes IWA such a rewarding place to work for personal assistants,” says Michael Doyle.

This January IWA is hoping to recruit personal assistants in Galway and across the country to meet the increasing demands on services. “IWA is an organisation that focuses on people. It’s built on fairness, trust, equality, and respect for our members and staff. Working at IWA is more than just a job; it's about being part of a community united by purpose, so everyone can grow, belong and thrive," concluded Michael.
