Have hands-on learning and a vibrant campus life at DCU

Choosing the right college can be challenging, but Dublin City University (DCU ) makes the decision easier with its special combination of academic opportunities and vibrant student life.

“I would say that the two main things that set DCU apart are the mandatory third-year placement, which lasts six to 12 months, and the general student life,” explained DCU student ambassador Izie Osayimwen. “We have market fairs, social events, and even a pantry that helps students living on a budget.”

DCU also provides a wide range of opportunities beyond the lecture hall. “There are paid internships, study abroad programmes, and scholarships, including merit and sports awards,” Izie explained. “Plus, there’s great support for mental, physical, and academic health, including a mental health nurse, campus medical staff, sensory pods, and maths and writing learning centres.”

Societies and clubs

Student clubs and societies are a highlight of student life for many, and DCU offers a wide range of them. The college offers everything from sports to indoor and outdoor clubs, as well as academic, cultural, performative, lifestyle, and faith-based societies. There are more than 80 societies and 30 clubs, so there’s something for everyone.”

DCU also has many popular events, including Dance and Drama Society performances, society balls, trips, and social nights out.

Campus and student life are both lively and inclusive, with the close proximity to Dublin city a highlight. “Student life at DCU is great. There’s free breakfast, wellness events, and supportive lecturers," Izie said, "The clubs and societies make it easy to meet people you mesh with.

"The campus is really beautiful, and it's really close to everything. You are always a bus ride away from town."

Campus life from a student's perspective

Drawing on her personal experience at DCU, Izie explained her decision to choose one of Dublin's biggest universities. “I chose DCU mainly for my course, which opens doors to industry, cosmetics, and postgraduate study. Not just in my course, but in many others too. Student life was a huge factor too, and I just heard great things about DCU,” Izie added.

Speaking on the university's community spirit, Izie highlighted the common consciousness that DCU has a strong sense of community.

“DCU is very welcoming. People are respectful and supportive, regardless of background or beliefs, and the university stays engaged with current issues.”

With strong academic programs, paid placements, active societies, and a supportive campus, DCU doesn't just offer a degree; it offers a truly rewarding university experience that prepares students for both career and life.v
