Falling out between brothers sees one in court on insurance charge

A falling out between two brothers led to one appearing before Tuam District Court charged with driving without insurance.

Danny McGrath, solicitor explained to Judge James Faughnan that the brothers lived in the same house and his client was insured under his brother’s policy.

However, during Race Week the two had a falling out and the brother with the insurance policy threatened to take the other, a named driver, off the policy.

“He couldn’t believe his brother would do so, and continued to drive,” Mr McGrath explained. However, when he was stopped by Gardaí it transpired that he’d gone right ahead and done just that.

The tale had a happy ending as Mr McGrath explained that the brothers had since made up their differences and were on good terms again, so much so that his client had purchased the car in question from his brother and was now fully insured to drive.

Judge Faughnan imposed a fine of €200 but not a disqualification owing to the circumstances.
