The Galway Plaza will host a festive ‘Light up for Iggy’, a Christmas tractor run and family fun day on Sunday, December 28, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, bringing families, farmers and the wider community together for an excellent cause.
The event will feature a Christmas tractor run, family-friendly entertainment and prizes, with all proceeds going to Cholangiocarcinoma Ireland, supporting Éanna Ryan’s ‘Run for Iggy’ fundraising campaign.
The initiative is held in loving memory of Iggy Daly, who passed away earlier this year from cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive bile duct cancer. ‘Light up for Iggy’ celebrates his life while helping to raise awareness and vital funds for a disease that remains under-recognised.
Speaking ahead of the event, Pat McDonagh, founder of Supermac’s and the Plaza Group, said, “Iggy was a much-loved family man and a true gentleman, and his loss is still felt deeply by everyone who knew him.
“This event is about remembering Iggy in a positive, uplifting way, while also supporting the incredible efforts being made by Éanna and by Cholangiocarcinoma Ireland to raise awareness of a cancer that doesn’t get the attention needed. At Christmas especially, bringing people together for a good cause is what community is all about.”
Visitors can expect a lively and welcoming atmosphere, featuring face painting, raffles, and spot prizes, as well as live entertainment performances by Kiltullagh Choir and prizes for the best decorated tractors in class.
Families are encouraged to wrap up warm, bring the kids, and enjoy a festive evening together as the tractors light up the plaza. Members of the public are welcome to attend, donate, and support on the evening.
Funds raised will directly support Éanna Ryan, former Galway hurler and general manager at M6 Motors, who will take on the Marathon des Sables in April, a gruelling 250km ultramarathon across the Sahara Desert, in honour of his late uncle Iggy.
Éanna’s campaign aims not only to raise funds but to shine a light on cholangiocarcinoma and support families affected by the disease through the work of Cholangiocarcinoma Ireland.
