Galway senior hurler Eoin Lawless has been announced as a recipient of the 2025 Mary Immaculate College (MIC ) Gaelic Players Association (GPA ) Scholarship award.

Eoin made his debut for Galway senior hurlers in 2023 after standout performances at underage level. He was part of the back-to-back-winning All-Ireland Minor squad in 2018 and 2019, earning a place on the Minor Team of the Year.

A graduate from the University of Galway, he also featured on the Fitzgibbon Cup teams that made consecutive finals in 2022 and 2023. He was named on the Electric Ireland GAA Higher Education Rising Stars Team of the Year in 2023 and 2024. Eoin lines out with St Mary's GAA of Athenry at club level.

Now in his second year of the PME—Primary Teaching programme at MIC, he has received the scholarship for the second consecutive year. He said that being awarded the scholarship "means a lot" to him.

"The support makes a real difference when you’re trying to balance a busy PME schedule with the demands of intercounty hurling. It takes some of the pressure off and lets you focus on performing well in both areas.

"I’m proud to represent MIC again this year and grateful for the backing that allows me to keep pushing on academically and on the pitch," added the Galway hurler.

Waterford Ladies Footballer, Aoife Brazil is the other recipient of the MIC GPA Scholarship awarded. Both athletes will also become ‘MIC GPA Scholars’ and will act as ambassadors within MIC’s sporting community, and will play a key role in supporting Gaelic Games at MIC.
