A man who is currently in custody is off the drink now, his solicitor told Galway District Court when dealing with a public order charge brought against him for public drunkenness.
Peter Fallon, in the care of the Simon Community, was found in an intoxicated condition at St Patrick’s Church, Forster Street on the afternoon of November 13 last.
He was arrested for his own safety and the safety of the public, Judge John King was told. The judge heard Fallon has 67 previous convictions; 33 of these are for being drunk in public and 14 for breaches of the peace.
The court was told Fallon was in custody on a warrant from Portlaoise District Court. The Judge remanded the defendant in custody and struck out the Galway public order charge.
