Galway has been voted Ireland’s ultimate festive escape, with over 50 per cent of respondents choosing its famous Christmas Market, fairy lights and romantic walks by the Corrib as the perfect seasonal city break.
When asked which city throws the best festive party, Galway came out on top again with 46 per cent of the vote for its lively trad sessions in hotel bars, while Dublin followed with under 40 per cent for glamorous nights out and late-night sing-alongs on Grafton Street.
Festive food traditions
Breakfast is a big deal for Irish travellers, and the full Irish with all the trimmings was the clear winner for the perfect Christmas morning at a whopping 47 per cent, followed by continental pastries and coffee at 24 per cent and breakfast in bed at 15 per cent. When it comes to festive drinks, Bailey’s hot chocolate reigns supreme with 55% of the vote, ahead of festive cocktails at 22 per cent and mulled wine at 18 per cent.

Romantic escapes were high on the wish list, with Galway topping the charts for couples looking for festive magic, followed by Dublin and Belfast.
