Three o’clock comes out on top for Galway in the Christmas dinner debate

Families across Galway pick 3pm for the big meal, with turkey and roast potatoes still ruling the table

New research from HelloFresh, Ireland’s leading recipe box provider, reveals that the Christmas dinner debate has a clear winner. A national poll shows almost a third (32 per cent ) of Galway households choose 3pm for the big meal, with 2pm and 4pm trailing behind at 24 per cent and 12 per cent respectively. A brave few still sit down before midday.

The findings paint a familiar picture of what actually happens around Irish tables. Most of us keep things classic, from the menu to the company we share it with.

- Turkey holds its place at around 66 per cent

- Roast potatoes come first among the trimmings at 31 per cent, followed by stuffing at 29 per cent

- 64 per cent say they stick to a fully traditional spread

Immediate family leads the guest list at 71 per cent, with partners and extended family adding to the mix

Hannah Duxbury, head of culinary at HelloFresh, says: “Christmas looks different in every household, but this research shows there are a few things we all share. Most of us reach for the classics, but we are not shy about adding our own twists. That mix of old and new shapes how we build our recipes at HelloFresh. We want to give people the favourites they trust and a few fresh ideas when they want them, all with less stress in the kitchen.”
