University of Galway Mystics came out on top against Swords Thunder by a final score of 67-62 in a nail-biting encounter at the Kingfisher last Sunday afternoon.
It was intense from the off as Mystics edged out Swords Thunder 16-13 in the first quarter. Mystics maintained the lead in the second quarter, ending it 32-25. As the third quarter unfolded, Mystics continued to build momentum, highlighted by a 7-0 run, closing the quarter at 57-44.
Mystics held on to their lead in the fourth quarter despite fierce pressure from Swords Thunder, the gap reduced to just three points with 15 seconds remaining. The win moves University of Galway Mystics up to sixth place in the Domino's Women's Division One with three wins from six games.
Demetra Yennari (15 points ), Emma Glavin (14 points ) and Kara McCleane (11 points ) scored well for Mystics. Meanwhile, Swords Thunder's Division One leading points scorer Katherine Kayce Vaile's remarkable double-double of 37 points and 12 rebounds showcased her dominance.
Mystics are at home again against Abbey Seals Dublin Lions this Saturday, November 29 at 4pm in the Kingfisher before two away games against Moy Tolka Rovers and Templeogue.
