Combined, the three musicians are a powerful force, harnessed by Sharon Shannon who recorded with the trio on her latest, upcoming album. She says that as soon as she heard them perform together, she wanted them involved.
In return, she also performs on their upcoming album, along with many world-class musicians, including Joanie Madden, Derek Hickey and John Carty.
Limerick’s Trevor Sexton, and Ger O’Donnell, from Clare, have been performing together for several years and have built up a strong following.
Their 2024 album, Lullabies and Fairytales, showed their easy, acoustic style and a knack for storytelling. Their gigs are relaxed, warm and full of traditional influences.
With a background spanning classical flute, fife, rock, and strings, O’Donnell is known for his versatility. He has achieved multiple chart successes, including the no. 1 hits ‘Turquoise Ink’ and ‘Talk About the Heroes’.
He has performed with well-known artists like Dolores Keane, Sharon Shannon, Paul Brady, Cherish the Ladies and Seán Keane.
Sexton is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with influences ranging from Bob Dylan to Pete Seeger to Bob Marley. His music often expresses personal stories, and he has played at major venues including Cork Opera House, Vicar Street and the UL Concert Hall.
Together, the pair have toured widely across Europe and the United States and have released two well-received albums, The Alchemist’s Stone and Lullabies and Fairytales.
Joining them for the Monroe’s Live show is Galway’s own Don Stiffe, one of the most respected voices in Irish folk music today.
Don has been praised at home and abroad for his strong, emotional singing style. His version of ‘The Dimming of the Day’ won Vocal Cut of the Year at the Live Ireland Awards in 2010, and he has performed with top traditional musicians including Frankie Gavin, Cathal Hayden and Carl Hession.
Don’t miss your chance to see these three acclaimed folk musicians perform together at Monroe’s Live on Friday, November 28 at 7:30pm.
