Black Dragon fighter Giulia Comini is now officially the top seed fighter in the Ladies 62kg K-1 division across Ireland after her 'Rumble Championship Belt' victory last Saturday night.

After a high-paced five-round battle as the main event in Dublin's Sallynoggin Inn, Black Dragon's Comini secured a well-deserved victory over Ulster's top seed Rachael McIlhagga from Derry to win the coveted 'Rumble Championship Belt'.

Comini hails from the city of Parma in Italy. She only started her career in Kickboxing/K-1 just two and a half years ago at the University of Galway Muay Thai under Black Dragon winner Whitney Sheppard. She has had quite a career in Galway so far.

Comini, who is a doctor by day, fighter by night, is now a postdoctoral researcher in neuropharmacology in the University Of Galway after completing her PHD last August. She is currently engaged in research about the transplantation of stem cells and hydrogels for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

Sheppard spotted she had a natural talent for Martial Arts and suggested she should start training at Black Dragon Gym under Pete Foley and the rest is history. In April this year, she also won out the prestigious ISKA Irish Open at -65kg in Derry.

The four provinces Rumble Tournament (brainchild of Dublin Promoter Tadgh Coleman ) is the icing on the cake for her career so far. Comini entered the contest somewhat as an underdog but after brushing aside Leinster seed Vicky Ochala from Dublin back in March and then defeating Ulster seed McIlhagga from Derry last night in the much anticipated final.

She now takes her place as Ireland's queen of K-1 at 62kg.
