Man alleged to have threatened to kill neighbours

A MAN who, it is alleged, made threats to kill or cause injury to his Ballinasloe neighbours has been sent for trial at the Galway Circuit Criminal Court.

Mokhanga Mpofu of 10 Esker Riada, Poolboy, Ballinasloe is charged with making threats to kill a number of individuals. He is charged with threatening to kill or cause serious injury to Jack Flaherty on April 4, 2024. He is also charged with threatening to kill or cause serious injury to Fiona Flaherty. The threats, it is stated in the charge, were of a nature that it could be believed that they would be carried out. He is also charged with threatening Isabel de Souza on June 1 last.

Defending solicitor Jack Duncan was informed that a Book of Evidence compiled by prosecuting Gardaí had been served on his client and he was being sent forward to the current sitting of Galway Circuit Criminal Court for trial.

Mr Duncan requested disclosure CCTV evidence which had previously been shown in Court when Judge Faughnan was deciding if the case could be heard in the District Court or was serious enough to go forward to the Circuit Criminal Court. The doorbell footage allegedly showed the defendant making threats to a neighbour.

Judge Faughnan gave Mpofu the mandatory alibi warning, telling him if he intended to use an alibi as part of his defence he had to make this known to Gardaí before his trial.
